Christmas Ornament Stitching

Yeah!!  Three cross stitch ornaments are complete — sort of.  The stitching is complete so I can cross them off of my goal list…. but I still need to finish them.  I am hoping that the finishing will be quick and relatively painless by using 2.5 inch mini frames.  I’m not sure what my approach will be but will post that when it happens.   All three were stitched on white hardanger (22 count) using dmc and stitching one over one.

Tree With Presents

The “Tree With Presents” called for french knots for the ornaments but in my bead box I found several petite beads that I used instead.

Santa Owl

“Santa Owl” is the favorite in my family.  Again, I used beads for the berries rather than french knots.  I didn’t have any petites in an appropriate red so I used the regular size bead and think they are perfect!

Mouse Behind Package

“Mouse Behind Package” was another fun stitch.  The pattern doesn’t have the white strips on the package being stitched but I decided to stitch them and am glad that I did.  The eyes and nose for Mr. Mouse are french knots using two strands of dmc.  But — OH NO — if forgot his tail.

Ahhh…. the magic of photography.  It is amazing what you see or don’t see in a photograph vs. live and in person.  I am often surprised to see something totally unexpected when I am posting my photos on-line.

All three patterns came from Kount on Kappie, Books 36, “Trim Your Tree with Stitch ‘n Stuff” from 1982 — and yes, I did buy it when it was new!!  The book is no longer being printed but the Kount on Kappie books are always popping up on ebay, etsy, amazon and several other sites.

  1. Beautiful, and the beads work wonderfully (much nicer than french knots anyway!)
